The South Carolina Community Health Worker Association (SCCHWA), in partnership with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, invites Community Health Workers to participate in this FREE, two-day virtual training focused on strengthening the role of CHWs in supporting people living with multiple sclerosis (MS).
MS is a complex chronic disease that can affect each person differently. Symptoms can change from day to day, may not always be visible to others, and can create challenges that extend beyond the clinical setting. Community Health Workers are uniquely positioned to help individuals navigate these challenges through advocacy, education, resource navigation, care coordination, and trusted, person-centered support.
During this interactive training, participants will explore:
- MS basics and the lived experience of people living with MS
- Common and often invisible symptoms and how they can affect daily life
- Barriers to accessing care, including challenges experienced in rural communities
- Navigating healthcare, treatment, medications, resources, and support services
- Strategies for advocacy, communication, and person-centered support
- The role of CHWs in connecting individuals, families, caregivers, healthcare providers, and community resources
- Opportunities to strengthen the integration and sustainability of CHWs in supporting people living with chronic conditions
Participants will leave with practical strategies, resources, and tools they can apply in their work with people living with MS and other chronic conditions.
Training Dates: September 2–3, 2026
Time: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM each day
Location: Virtual via Zoom
Cost: FREE
Continuing Education: 8 CHW CEUs
Participants must attend both days to complete the full training and earn 8 CHW CEUs.

Building a Sustainable Role for CHWs
Beyond strengthening skills for supporting people living with MS, this training will explore the broader role CHWs can play in chronic disease support and care.
Participants will consider opportunities for integrating CHWs into care teams and community-based services, including emerging approaches to CHW funding, reimbursement, and sustainable payment models.
Understanding and demonstrating the value of CHW services is an important part of building long-term, sustainable opportunities for the CHW workforce.
