Recertifications Is LIVE
If you were certified anytime BEFORE January 1, 2023,
you must recertify by December 31, 2024.
After all of your CEUs have been submitted and approved, you may apply for Recertification.

Recertification Requirements
South Carolina Certified Community Health Workers must accrue 24 continuing education units every 2 years as a Recertification requirement; a minimum of 12 hours must be CHW CEUs.
CHW CEUs may be earned by attending SCCHWA events, like the Annual Conference, Quarterly Meetings, SE CHW CoLab, and SE CHW Network's Annual Summit. Specialty Tracks are included as CHW CEUs please see the list below of approved CHW CEUs.
Up to 2 Service CEUs per year may come for activities CHWs to support other Community Health Workers, organizations, and SCCHWA.
South Carolina Community Health Workers certified before January 1, 2023, need to be recertified by December 31, 2024. And you may submit CEUs gained since July 1, 2022.
All others must apply for recertification by their certification's expiration date, three years from their Core Competency Certification date.
A new application must be submitted for each course or service activity.
Recertification Application
One you have meet all of the requirements, you may submit an application for Recertification. Please note that you still have to apply for recertification even if you intend to apply for Tiered and Legacy status.

- The Recertification Review Committee has 60 days to review & respond.
- Respond quickly if the Recertification Review Committee has questions or needs further documentation.

Continuing Education Units & Specialty Tracks
You can earn continuing education units (CEUs) through SCCHWA events and trainings. Specialty Tracks are included as CHW CEUs please see the list above of approved CHW CEUs. See our upcoming events on our calendar.
Tiered Certification
Responding to SCCHWA members' desire to "grow in our profession while remaining in our profession, the South Carolina Community Health Worker Credentialing Council and the South Carolina Health Worker Association approved Tiered Community Health Worker Certification.
Certified Community Health Worker II, CCHW II
- Minimum of 4 Years working in the field
- Bi-Annual SCCHWA Recertification (24 hrs every two years)
- Successful Completion of a minimum of 4 CHW Specialty Tracks
- Demonstration of at least one year in CHW leadership (CHW ambassador, SCCHWA board, active involvement in SCCHWA workgroup, active involvement in CHW regional or national committee or initiative, CHW Preceptor, CHW supervisor, CHW program leadership or program development at organizational level)
- Updated profile on the SCCHWA.org Member Compass
- Submit Application & Processing Fee
Certified Community Health Worker III, CCHW III
- Minimum of 8 Years working the field
- Bi-Annual SCCHWA Recertification (24 hrs every two years)
- Successful Completion of a minimum of 6 CHW Specialty Tracks
- Demonstration of at least two years in CHW leadership (CHW ambassador, SCCHWA board, active involvement in SCCHWA workgroup, active involvement in CHW regional or national committee or initiative, CHW Preceptor, CHW supervisor, CHW program leadership or program development at organizational level)
