Healing in Action: Addressing Secondary Traumatic Stress Among Community Health Workers Through Culturally-Informed Wellness Practices

Between 15%–34% of providers working in high-trauma communities experience secondary traumatic stress (STS) and compassion fatigue, which can lead to burnout and poor mental health.

In response, a project in central Wisconsin has partnered with Community Health Workers serving refugee and immigrant communities to co-develop culturally-relevant, trauma-informed wellness workshops, and create a national wellness toolkit.

As CHWs from public health departments, along with partnered organizations, face increasing trauma and stress from funding cuts and community instability, the project shifted to a healing-centered approach rooted in empowerment, cultural strength, and collective care.  Join us to learn more.
