Live Healthy Richland County

Live Healthy Richland County (LHRC) is a community coalition dedicated to creating environments that make it easier for all residents to live healthier lives. Through strategic collaboration with community organizations, government agencies, schools, healthcare partners, and residents, LHRC works to significantly impact community health, including access to healthy foods and safe opportunities for physical activity. By bringing diverse partners together, the coalition advances policy, systems, and environmental changes that support health equity and improve quality of life for all residents across Richland County.

Community engagement and resident-led planning are central to LHRC’s approach. By creating opportunities for residents to share their experiences and ideas, the coalition elevates local priorities, informs policy and systems discussions, and strengthens trust among residents, partners, and decision-makers.

The coalition also serves as a forum for sharing resources that can support local action. During a recent LHRC meeting, Taryn Farrell, Research and Policy Manager at the South Carolina Institute of Medicine and Public Health (IMPH), presented the Food Systems Policy Toolkit: Helping Health Happen for All. The presentation was part of ongoing efforts by the SC Roadmap to share the resource with organizations across South Carolina. The toolkit outlines practical policy options to strengthen local food systems, support farmers, and improve access to nutritious food.

Kim Rawlinson, Community Impact Manager at the Center for Community Health Alignment and a member of the SC Roadmap team, regularly participates in LHRC meetings. “What stands out is how LHRC turns lived experience into action. Its work helps ensure health improvement efforts reflect the needs and strengths of Richland County communities.”

The coalition meets on the second Tuesday of each month. Contact Mia Shells to learn more or to get involved. mia.shells@prismahealth.org
